6 Books To Get Your Hands On

Current reading list
A couple of weeks ago, I was asked to share my reading list. So here it is! I have given my thoughts and a bit of description on each of the books below.
If you have read any of these books or read them in due time, comment below on which your favourite is. Or simply recommend any books you think I should read!

When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalinithi
Recently finished reading this book, based on
a true story, the author pens down his transition from nearly reaching the peak of his career as a neurosurgeon to being diagnosed with
lung cancer and going through the journey of finding himself again. He finds himself in the shoes of patients he often diagnosed and operated on. Its one of those meaningful books that can help change your outlook on life and truly appreciate the time you have, the meaning of life and what it means to be alive. I want to read it again just to fully grasp his thought process.

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
One of those books that you wish has a joyful ending but unfortunately does not. Sounds gloomy, but it is far from that, it tells the story of two young boys who grow up together in Kabul, Afghanistan but unfortunately get separated overtime by a secret. After decades one of them seeks redemption however it was a little too late, until he finds a glimpse of hope in the face of adversity. I loved it so much that as soon as I was done, I got a Thousand Splendid Suns, another book by the author which I am excited to start reading.

I know Why The Cage Bird Sings by Maya Angelou
By far the longest time I have taken to read a book. That's only because I would read it twice a year for 3 years, every time I would travel from home to uni and vice versa. It is an autobiography by Maya Angelou, she talks about growing up during the time of segregation, going mute after sexual assault and how she overcame racism and trauma. It is one of those books that also made me feel so good when I was done, would definitely read it again.

Yes Gone Girl, as in the movie. Since I rarely watch movies as well, I only watched Gone Girl last year after I read the book. It took me 3 days to finish the book because it was that intriguing. The book is obviously ay more detailed than the movie and that's what makes it better. It tells the story of a wife who goes missing and obviously her husband, who seems very suspicious is the prime suspect. Plot twist, his wife may be the cause of her own disappearance, how you ask? Read the book!

Now this one may take me a while due to its sheer volume. However I am enjoying reading it in bits, I kind of do not want it to end because the fact that it's written by an african author means it feels very real and relatable to me.  It is described as a story of race and identity. I am currently readng this book, and I am taking my time because I don't want it to end...

My next read:
I got this book because it was on the list of books Barack Obama said he read last year. According to the description,  Exit West by the Pakistani-born author is at once a love story, a fable, and a chilling reflection on what it means to be displaced, unable to return home and unwelcome anywhere else. It speaks about the struggles faced by refugees, which I feel should be eye opening especially in this era where the number of war torn countries is increasing by the day and and loads of people are being forced to leave home.

Excited to read this book after reading The Kite Runner. I don't have much to say about this book, so I will paste the description on the back of the book.."Mariam is only fifteen when she is sent to Kabul to marry Rasheed. Nearly two decades later, a friendship grows between Mariam and a local teenager, Laila, as strong as the ties between mother and daughter. When the Taliban take over, life becomes a desperate struggle against starvation, brutality and fear. Yet love can move a person to act in unexpected ways, and lead them to overcome the most daunting obstacles with a startling heroism."
I hope it will be as good as its reviews

Till next time!
